Rich Pauloo

Hydrogeologist - Larry Walker Associates

Rich is a hydrogeologist and data scientist at Larry Walker Associates (LWA), an environmental engineering and consulting firm, where he designs scientific studies and monitoring networks to support sustainable groundwater planning and management. His work bridges hydrology and data science and has received awards from the Microsoft AI for Earth Challenge, American Geophysical Union, NASA, NSF, and the California Water Data Challenge. An advocate for open-source technology and technical education, Rich has published on the topic of open-source sensor networks for real-time water resources monitoring, taught Software Carpentry workshops, and developed water resources data science curriculum.

Rich completed a BA in Biology with a minor in Conflict Resolution at the University of California Berkeley, and a PhD in hydrogeology at the University of California Davis. Prior to graduate school, he taught environmental science to middle and high school students in Yosemite and the Marin Headlands for the educational nonprofit NatureBridge, and spent summers leading expeditions in the wilderness, and in Thailand for National Geographic Student Expeditions.
