Ben McMahan

Ben McMahan leads the climate services portfolio and team at the Office of Land Use and Climate Innovation (LCI), as part of the Integrated Climate Adaptation and Resilience Program (ICARP). A key focus for his team is to streamline access to climate data and adaptation tools, translating complex information to guide decision-making, and helping to navigate the vast landscape of available data and information.

Ben has extensive experience in collaborative and transdisciplinary research and leveraging data to inform practical and applied solutions. This includes community response to hurricanes and disaster in the U.S. gulf coast, NOAA CAP/RISA research on climate vulnerability and policy in the Southwest, and user-informed climate services and outreach to support decision making. He holds a PhD in Environmental Anthropology from the University of Arizona, and his work has focused on the intersection of qualitative and quantitative methods and data to inform holistic responses to environmental challenges, and design effective communication tools to connect those data to inform next steps for adaptation or planning.
