Nick Martorano has worked at the State Water Resources Control Board for over thirteen years. Nick is an environmental program manager within the Office of Information, Management, and Analysis as the Director of the California Water Quality Monitoring Council (Council). Nick is responsible for the overall direction of the Council, coordination with water quality and ecosystem health stakeholders, building partnerships, representing the Council at meetings and various engagement events, and dissemination of information generated by the Council’s theme-specific workgroups. Nick is also a member on the National Water Quality Monitoring Council representing U.S. EPA region 9 states and territories. In past roles, Nick has led the development and implementation of California’s Clean Water Act Section 303(d) and 305(b) Integrated report, Basin Plan amendments, total maximum daily loads, and water quality control policies. Nick has a Bachelor of Science in Aquatic Biology from U.C. Santa Barbara and Masters Degree in Latin American Studies with an emphasis in fisheries management from San Diego State University.
