Tara Moran
Senior Advisor
Tara Moran served as the founding CEO and President of the California Water Data Consortium from 2020 to 2024. She currently serves as a Senior Advisor for the Consortium, where she continues to advance the organization’s goal of ensuring that information about California’s water systems is accessible and usable.
Prior to joining the Consortium, Tara led the Sustainable Groundwater Program with Water in the West at Stanford University. Her work focuses on the technical requirements to support sustainable water management, including data collection, sharing, and integration. Tara’s work has also focused on understanding the role of data and information in water management decisions and the governance structures to support collaborative water management. She was a founding partner for the Groundwater Exchange, where she remains a Board Member. Tara holds a first-class honors B.Sc. in Environmental Science and a Ph.D. in Geography with a specialization in paleoclimatic reconstructions from the University of Calgary, Canada.
